Improving Wildlife Habitat
We specialize in the use of native understory plants to create a haven for the game animals of the Southeast. We produce the native seeds and plants that they seek for food and cover. Shaping a property's native food and cover structure drastically enhances the hunting experience. Ideally, our goal is to restore the historical natural vegetation on a property, but in a strategic fashion. In addition to the southern native seeds and plants we grow, we also use innovative techniques of releasing, expanding and distributing the desirable plants already growing on your property. Our new system, Wild Spectrum™ uses native grasses, native food species and practical solutions for Deer, Quail, Turkey and Dove hunters.
Native Plants of the Southeast
When we refer to a plant being native to the Southeast we generally mean that its presence was recorded by the earliest of naturalists upon European contact in the 1500's. The primary land systems of the Southeastern Coastal Plain are recognized as upland sandhills and flatwoods with associated wetlands. This is the most ecologically diverse area in North America. These sandhills and flatwoods were historically dominated by a sparse longleaf pine overstory with a diverse ground layer, primarily composed of native perennial grasses with various legumes and other wildflowers. For thousands of years these "savannas" were regularly set afire by lightening in the growing season. As a result, these plants are "fire-adapted" and rely on regular growing season burns for a competitive edge. Fire suppression, draining of wetlands and the introduction of exotic plants has degraded the savanna ecosystem.

4-week-old NWSG Mix
While we love the sport of hunting we understand that game animals are part of a larger system that impacts everyone. Our native grasses are multifunctional and in addition to habitat provide erosion and sediment control and fine fuels for fire continuity. Our diverse wildflowers provide important food to pollinator species, who in turn pollinate our food plants. This ecosystem is vital to our survival. It supports a chain of life that we are all attached to.
